Injury Prevention Tips:
- Don't be a 'weekend warrior', maintaining a moderate level of activity throughout the week is much better for your body.
Do not ignore minor injuries, treating them early on will prevent them becoming a bigger problem.
If you feel pain at anytime during training stop immediately and seek advice. Discomfort is a normal response but pain is a sign something is wrong.
Pay attention to your running shoes. Poor running shoes are a big cause of injuries in runners. Go to a specialist running shop and get the right shoes for your gait and remember to replace every 500 miles.
Remember to cross train. The stronger your body is as a whole the stronger you will be in your chosen sport.
Invest in a biomechanical assessment. Any old injuries may reappear as you increase your training load and imbalances in your biomechanics will become more apparent the longer/harder you train. Sorting out your biomechanics early will make you stronger and more injury proof in the long term.
Book regular sports massages. A regular sports massage will reduce pain, enhance performance and aid recovery by improving the speed and quality of soft tissue repair.
